A father, who stands accused of murdering his young daughter, wept in court yesterday (Tuesday).

Carl Wheatley appeared at St Albans Crown Court charged with the murder of four-year-old Alexa-Marie Quinn.

Wheatley, wearing a dark suit with light blue shirt and dark blue tie, clutched a tissue and wiped his eyes as he shed tears throughout the hearing.

The 30-year-old spoke only to confirm his name.

A murder trial had been due to start over the death of the youngster at Wheatley’s home in Queen Bee Court, Hatfield, on March 12.

But, owing to legal wrangling, Judge Stephen Gullick decided to adjourn the case until April 13 next year.
