RESIDENTS and staff are celebrating after a Hatfield care home was shortlisted for a prestigious national award.

Hatfield Nursing Home, in Tamblin Way, has reached the final of the 2010 National Association of Care Catering Innovation awards after accomplishments with projects designed to enrich the lives of residents.

Wendy Lawther, general manager of the home, said: “Everyone at Hatfield is really excited and pleased that we’ve reached the finals.”

The projects at the Sanctuary Group facility, which helped it reach the final in Blackpool on September 16, include activity corridors and memory recollection sessions for dementia patients.

These activities use a variety of objects and care techniques which are intended to raise the self-esteem of the 90 residents and add to their happiness and comfort.

Mrs Lawther added that the exercise has resulted in the home having “well cared for and socially stimulated people whose beliefs and ideas count”.
