Hatfield world boxing champion Billy Joe Saunders is wanted by police after skipping a criminal court appearance to announce his first title defence.
Saunders, 26, appeared at London’s O2 Arena at noon today to tell fans and reporters he would defend his WBO middleweight title against Ukrainian Max Bursak at the Copper Box Arena, Stratford, on April 30.
But that morning, he was supposed to be at Stevenage Magistrates’ Court to answer a charge of being in charge of a dog that was dangerously out of control in Tower Hill, Much Hadham.
The magistrates issued a warrant for the arrest of Saunders, giving his address as Hertford Road, Hatfield.
It is alleged that a victim was bitten several times by the dog on September 13.
The Welwyn Hatfield Times has asked the boxer’s representatives to explain why he did not attend court.
