Hatfield barista shows a latte talent in coffee-making competition

A Hatfield barista has scooped top prize in a regional coffee-making competition.
Georgia Mateer has bean crowned Costa’s Barista of the Year 2016 for the eastern region, and will now take a shot at winning The Champions of Champions Final on January 12.
The 19-year-old had to espresso her passion for coffee during a series of challenges, which included making hand-crafted drinks to an “exceptional standard” and demonstrating “passion, pride and skill”.
Georgia said: “It’s really overwhelming to have come this far. I wasn’t expecting it at all but now that I’m in the final, I’m definitely going for gold.”
The final will be held at the Royal Horticultural Hall in London, where finalists will compete for a latte prizes – including a 10-day trip for two with spending money to a coffee-making destination.
Georgia’s speciality drink for the competition is a ‘Toffee Lic’ – which combines a cortado shot, liquorice, cream and caramel.
