MORE than 9,700 dodgy DVDs were seized after a raid at a quiet village car boot sale.

Glen Smith had 574 counterfeit DVDs and 245 CDs on his stall in August last year

After a search of his home police seized 4,553 counterfeit DVDs and 2515 CDs.

They also removed 2,095 counterfeit pornographic DVDs and 16 depraved hardcore movies.

This week at St Albans Crown Court the 38-year-old pleaded guilty to three charges of selling counterfeit DVD, three of selling counterfeit CDs and 16 charges of possessing extreme pornography.

Three police officers from the Hatfield Neighbourhood team have had training in identifying counterfeit goods and they have access to specialist companies who can spot a copy from a fake.

Working alongisde the British Phonographic Institute (music) and Federation Against Copyright Theft (FACT) they led the case against him.

Smith, of Cranston Gardens, Chingford, Essex, is due to be sentenced next month.
