WOMEN across Hertsmere are being urged to keep their handbags safe after an "unusual" spate of thefts.
Police said eight bags have been stolen from riding stables across the borough over the last month, with the majority being taken from vehicles.
Chief inspector Sian Lockley said: "This is a very unusual spate of handbag thefts at farms across Hertsmere - unfortunately, most of them have been from insecure vehicles.
"I'd like to remind drivers - especially women leaving handbags unattended - to make sure they secure their vehicles and leave any personal belongings out of sight.
