At around 6pm on Thursday, August 2, two offenders tried to get away from TK Maxx with £500 worth of handbags in tow.

As they left the store, they were challenged by a member of staff who managed to recover the bags and detain one of the offenders.

However, the hero retail worker was hit on the side of the head by the other offender, who then ran off.

The offender also pushed over a 70-year-old-man as he made off, causing shoulder and elbow injuries.

Police have circulated CCTV images and are appealing for the public’s help in identifying a man who may be able to help with the enquiries.

PC Sarah Lingard, who is investigating, said: “I’m appealing for anyone who recognises the man pictured to get in touch as we believe he may have information that can assist the ongoing investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Lingard by emailing Sarah.lingard@herts.pnn.police.uk, calling the non-emergency number 101, quoting crime reference 41/24670/18, or to report information online at www.herts.police.uk/Report.
