I AM no Nikki Clarke.

Neither am I particularly knowledgeable about the colour of my roots or the split ends that, according to TV adverts, "could irreparably damage" my hair.

However, I do know that WGC has a hidden gem when it comes to hairdressing.

Staff at Saks in the Howard Centre were crowned champions in the company's central region at the end of last year.

The award made them one of three of the best salons nationwide and only just missed out clinching the country's prize at the Salon of the Year grand final in London last month.

Helen Hodgkinson, franchisee and colour specialist at the branch, said: "The evening at which the store picked up the prize was really terrific.

"It was a very exciting event and everyone was so proud of themselves. They have proved to be a fantastic team."

Faye Burden Stalholm also received praise for her work at the branch and came second in the individual achiever of the year category.

Helen added that the team at Saks offer a "really different experience" when it comes to hair.

"We are not just about doing a fantastic job and then you wash your hair and it looks a mess," she said

"We give you tips on how to maintain your hair long after you have had it done with us.

"Our goal is to have you looking 10 years younger."

To book an appointment at the salon phone Saks on 01707 377252.
