Guns, ammo, stun-guns and drugs seized by armed police in Welwyn Garden City

GUNS, ammo and Class A drugs were seized when police raided a house in Welwyn Garden City, police have said.

A dawn raid took place on Tuesday and was carried out by Hertfordshire Constabulary’s elite armed ‘Tactical Team’.

A police spokesman said: “The property was searched and officers seized prohibited firearms, 103 rounds of rifle ammunition and suspected cocaine.”

Pc Martin Sturgess, from the Tactical Team, based in Stevenage, said: “Firearms offences are a rarity in Hertfordshire and we will relentlessly and robustly pursue those criminals that commit this type of crime.”

• Howard Jones, aged 54 and from Bessemer Road was charged with possession of and handgun, a rifle, and rifle ammunition, importation of five taser stun-guns, importantion of seven pepper-gas sprays and possession with intent to supply Class A drugs. He appeared at Hatfield Remand Court on May 1 and was remanded in custody.
