Gun threat in Welwyn Garden City armed robbery

A shop worker was threatened with what is believed to have been a gun this afternoon in Welwyn Garden City.

Hundreds of pounds in cash and £300 worth of cigarettes were stolen in an armed robbery at a Martin’s newsagents in Welwyn Garden City this afternoon.

Police were called to the shop in Hall Grove at 12.50pm today.

A police spokeswoman said; “We were called to reports of a robbery where money and cigarettes had been taken.

“The victim reports that he was armed with what she believes was a gun in a carrier bag.

“He pointed the bag at her.

“She didn’t actually see the weapon because it was covered by the bag.

“He demanded that she open the till and give money and cigarettes before making off.

“We’re still on the scene at the moment.

“Obviously the woman is quite shocked.”
