SNOW is yet again descending upon Times Territory tonight (Thursday), which means even more gritting runs and even less salt remaining.

Tonight, Hertfordshire Highways is expecting to use between 150 to 300 tonnes of salt, which could mean as little as 485 tonnes remain in stock.

The government is now coordinating salt deliveries to local authorities across the UK based on declared need.

A spokesman for Hertfordshire County Council said: "We still need to be careful to strike a balance between keeping priority roads passable and conserving salt so that we can continue to keep gritting.

County councillor Stuart Pile, executive member of highways, transport and rural affairs, said the current salt deliveries were working "reasonably well".

"We have enough salt for the next week and a half, but it's difficult to say beyond that," he said.
