TIMES Territory fire crews freed a goose that was stuck in fishing wire today (Tuesday).

The troubled bird was tangled in line at Willows Lakes in Colney Heath at 2.48pm with crews from Welwyn Garden City and Hatfield saving the goose.

A specialist water rescue boat from Hatfield was used to get to the island to free the bird.

“We are happy to assist in animal rescues when we are available and able to do so,” said a fire service spokesman.

“Our firefighters have the training and the specialist equipment and sometimes we are the only organisation who can safely rescue animals in distress.

“These calls can also provide real life training opportunities, giving firefighters a chance to use specialist equipment to carry out rescues.

“We would not attend an animal rescue if our crews were needed at another incident.”
