BURNS Night was celebrated in style at WGC Golf Club.

The haggis was piped in as 60 guests enjoyed the fun celebrating the life and work of Scottish poet Robert Burns.

Club captain Tony Welsh said: "We feasted on a sumptuous menu provided by renowned chef Alan Greaves and his assistant Jo Hart.

"The Selkirk Grace was read by former club captain Ron Millar and the address to the haggis was carried out by another former club captain Graham Cowie."

He added: "The highlight of the evening for many of those present was the recital of three of the 400 or so songs written by Burns during his life.

"The pianist was Welshman Dennis Evans and the vocalist was Irishman Tom O'Kane.

"What would Robert Burns have thought of a Welshman and an Irishman performing his songs on a night dedicated to his memory?"

The night was rounded off with a rendition of Auld Lang Syne.
