A MASSIVE Lady Godiva puppet wowed Hatfield residents on Friday and Saturday.

For the tour of ‘Godiva Awakes’ – an artistic conception which forms part of the Cultural Olympiad came to town.

The 20ft tall marionette arrived on Friday afternoon at Birchwood Leisure Centre.

The formerly nude Anglo-Saxon noblewoman has been re-imagined as a golden-haired champion of justice, who is now clothed.

Union Jack-waving youngsters greeted her as she made her way through the town on Friday.

Saturday was less of a success, though, as torrential downpours hindered her progress through Hatfield House.

The visit was hailed a triumph however as Godiva herself tweeted Hatfield Town Council to say: “we had a lovely time at Hatfield - it was great to work with you and inspire so many children”.
