A girl was punched and another was struck with a walking stick in Welwyn Garden City last night (Friday).
Three youths approached three teenage girls, on Bridge Road East, carrying what is believed to have been a small walking stick.
The attackers then demanded that the victims handed over their phones.
After one of the girls was punched two of them gave into the offenders demands but the third girl refused and was pulled to the floor and hit twice with the stick.
The attackers are described as a male and two females.
The male is believed to be aged 16 to 19, 5ft 9in-10in tall and stocky.
He had short blond hair and was wearing white and blue striped shirt and grey tracksuit bottoms.
One of the females was aged around 18, around 5ft 7in and slim.
She had long dark brown hair and was wearing a red bandana with a white swirly pattern that covered her face and carrying a walking stick.
The other was aged 16-17, around 5ft 4in and of medium build.
She also had long dark brown hair and was wearing dark clothing.
They made off with two phones after the attack at just before 11pm.
DC Glen Turrell-Oldacre, from the local crime unit in Hatfield, said: “These offenders were of a distinctive appearance as one of the females was carrying a walking stick at the time.
“I would like to speak to anyone who believes they saw these people in the area at the time or who believes they may know who they are.”
