A GIANT puppet will be passing through Hatfield on Friday and Saturday.

The six metre (20ft) marionette will arrive at Birchwood Leisure Centre, in Longmead, as part of the Cultural Olympiad at about 2.15pm on Friday – with a performance at around 5.30pm.

The following day it will head to Hatfield House at 11am, departing for Waltham Abbey at about 12.30pm.

The Godiva figure, with its massive band of followers, is travelling from Coventry to London as part of the Godiva Awakes exhibition.

A spokesman said: “Godiva Awakes is a world class piece of public art, made by mechanics, artists, theatre makers, puppeteers and engineers from Coventry, the region, nationally and internationally to the highest standards of contemporary craftsmanship.”

It will be ‘powered’ by 100 cyclists en route to London for the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Car parking will be available on the Birchwood car boot site on Friday, but not at the front of the building.
