A Welwyn Garden City-based charity is set to hold an election hustings with the Welwyn Hatfield candidates.
Isabel Hospice will host the aspiring MPs at Welwyn Garden City’s Christchurch in Tewin Road, where they will be quizzed by residents ahead of the vote on June 8.
The event on Tuesday, May 23, will start at 7.30pm, when refreshments will be served and residents will be able to meet the candidates, before the hustings takes place between 8pm and 9.15pm.
Robin Webb, the charity’s CEO, said: “This is a first for Isabel Hospice and we see it as an exciting opportunity to work in partnership with Churches in Welwyn Garden City to give local people the opportunity to ask the candidates questions on issues that are important to them.
“From the hospice’s point of view, we are keen to understand the possible impact of each party’s policies on health and social care which is a key issue for people across the country.”
Father Norbert Fernandes, Catholic Priest and chair of the Churches in Welwyn Garden City group, added: “We are delighted to give local people this opportunity to meet the candidates and expect the questions to be wide ranging.
“We hope the night will produce good, thought-provoking discussions, which will inform people about both local and national issues.”
Currently Grant Shapps (Tory) Anawar Miah (Labour) Nigel Quinton (Lib Dem) and Christianne Sayers (The Green Party) have signed up to the event.
The charity is also hoping UKIP’s Dean Milliken and Independent candidate Melvyn Jones will confirm their attendance in the next few days.
