Six hopeful politicians vying to represent Welwyn Hatfield in Parliament clashed verbal swords in a public debate yesterday evening.

The constituency’s General Election candidates took part in a debate at the University of Hertfordshire’s Weston Auditorium on the de Havilland campus.

University vice chancellor Professor Quintin McKellar oversaw the exchanges between independent Melvyn Jones, Anawar Miah for the Labour Party, Dean Milliken of UKIP, Nigel Quinton for the Liberal Democrats, Conservative Grant Shapps, and Green Christianne Sayers.
