It was a 2015 General Election night of triumph for the Conservatives in Hertfordshire, with the Tories winning the Welwyn Hatfield, Hertsmere, Stevenage, St Albans and Broxbourne seats. Blue was the colour across the county, with all 11 Parliamentary seats going to the Tories. Here’s a guide to the election results.

WELWYN HATFIELD

Tory Party chairman Grant Shapps retained his Welwyn Hatfield seat.

He polled 25,281 votes, with Anawar Miah second for Labour on 13,128.

HERTSMERE

Conservative Oliver Dowden triumphed in Hertsmere, which includes Potters Bar and South Mimms, by a majority of 18,461.

The 36-year-old took 29,696 votes in the seat vacated by James Clappison, with Labour candidate Richard Butler second.

The turnout was 68.3 per cent, up from 65 per cent in the last General Election in 2010.

STEVENAGE

Tory Stephen McPartland retained his Stevenage seat, which includes Knebworth, Codicote and Datchworth.

The Conservative polled 21,291 votes, with Sharon Taylor second for Labour on 16,336.

BROXBOURNE

Charles Walker retained his Broxbourne seat.

The Conservative won the constituency which includes Northaw with 25,797 votes, with UKIP’s David Platt second.

HERTFORDSHIRE NORTH EAST

Conservative Sir Oliver Heald held his seat in Hertfordshire North East, which includes Watton-at-Stone and Tewin.

He was elected after winning 28,949 votes.

ST ALBANS

Tory Anne Main won St Albans with 25,392 votes, with Labour’s Kerry Pollard polling around half that with 12,660.

Liberal Democrat Sandy Walkington, from Welwyn, came in third with 10,076.

HITCHIN AND HARPENDEN

Peter Lilley comfortably held onto the Hitchin and Harpenden seat with 31,488 votes.

Labour’s Rachel Burgin came in second place with 11,433 votes.

UKIP’s John Stocker was third with 4,917, narrowly beating Liberal Democrat Pauline Pearce with 4,484.

HERTFORD & STORFORD

Mark Prisk has retained his Hertford and Storford seat.

The Conservative polled 31,593 votes for a majority of 21,509.

Labour candidate Katherine Chibah was second with 10,084.

WATFORD

Conservative Richard Harrington increased his majority as he held on to his Watford seat.

The Tory was declared Watford MP with 24,400 votes.

Labour candidate Matt Turmaine claimed second place with 14,606 votes.

HEMEL HEMPSTEAD

Conservative Mike Penning took Hemel Hempsteasd with a 52.9 per cent share of the vote and 14,420 majority.

He polled 26,245 votes, with Labour candidate Tony Breslin second with 11,825. UKIP’s Howard Koch was third.

HERTFORDSHIRE SOUTH WEST

Tory David Gauke won the Hertfordshire South West seat with 56.9 per cent share of the vote.

He polled 32,608 votes, with Labour candidate Simon Diggins second with 9,345.

The results from the Welwyn Hatfield and Hertsmere local elections will be declared later today.
