MORE than 200 youngsters gathered in WGC to catch a glimpse of a terrifying monster last week.
The intrepid children made their way to Maher the Bookseller in the Howard Centre, where they came face to face with the legendary Gruffalo.
The petrifying beast, who is the subject of a number of children's books by Julia Donaldson, posed for photos at the bookshop as part of his 10th birthday celebrations.
Owner Tony Maher described Donaldson's Gruffalo books as "modern classics" and said the monster proved to be a popular guest at his store.
"It was a bit overwhelming really," he said.
"It was well organised and everybody got a little goody bag.
"It was a really nice day.
