SUNSHINE beat down on over 350 hardened walkers as they meandered around Times Territory for charity.

Organisers of Sunday's Welwyn Hatfield Rotary Walk estimated that they surpassed the £20,000 raised at last year's jaunt.

Hosts of participants gathered at Campus West start point in WGC from 8.30am to embark on the event's five and 11-mile ambles.

Rotarian John Hopley said the weather was a real attraction for the entrants.

"Compared to last year, the weather was amazing and there was a lot of enjoyment had by all on the course," he said.

"Around 200 did the longer walk and about 50 people entered on the day.

"It was a smashing day."

Among the walkers were WHT editor Terry Mitchinson and MP Grant Shapps, who raised nearly 2,000 for the Herts Air Ambulance Appeal.
