IN the second Times Territory pancake race of the day, Hatfield's inaugural event was won by the police.
Hatfield PCSOs Ben Arnold, Adam Coley, Simon Ford and Richard Cobb took the spoils after defeating Welwyn Hatfield Council's communications team in the final.
The race - the first ever in Hatfield - took place around a course set out in White Lion Square.
After a number of late cancellations, six teams lined up to race for the coveted silver frying pan.
The final saw the council press officers take an early lead after the PCSOs dropped their pancake at the start.
But halfway through the second lap, the community officers stole a march on their rivals and held on for victory.
Nicola Kane, the borough council's town centres co-ordinator, said "For a first attempt, we're really pleased.
"It's been a lot of fun, and we hope to build on this for next year, and make the Hatfield pancake race an annual event.
