VILLAGERS soaked up the sun as they revelled at an annual festival.

Thousands of residents enjoyed magic shows, brass bands and gladiator jousting at the Lemsford Fete on Bank Holiday Monday.

Organisers of the festival held at St John's Church in the village believed they had raised over £10,000 from the day.

Money will go towards a new roof for the church and other community charities.

Chris Hall, headteacher at St John's School in Lemsford said: "It was a wonderful sunny day and people flooded in.

"It's always such a popular event and this time because of the weather people came out and stayed out.

"People were relaxed and everyone seemed to thoroughly enjoy the whole day.
