More than 20 fire engines and over 100 firefighters were at Hatfield House taking part in the major fire drill.
Exercise Rainbow began at 7pm on Monday and the Welwyn & Hatfield Times' team of reporters were asked to take part.
So as the firefighters donned their breathing apparatus and headed into the inferno our reporters were quizzing the officers to bring our readers news of what was happening behind the cordon.
