PIG carcasses thrown from a truck are currently being assessed by an environmental health officer.
The 12-wheel lorry overturned at around 10pm last night (Sunday) and is still in situ at the Welwyn roundabout.
Around 50 pigs are at scene.
Roads around the accident spot are now reopened but reduced to one lane in parts.
A police spokeswoman said: "There is just one lane currently closed and is likely to remain so for a few hours.
"It is hoped it could reopen at 3pm.
"The officer at the scene has confirmed traffic is running freely at the moment."
A Welwyn Hatfield Council spokeswoman confirmed an environmental health officer is also at the crash site.
