STUDENTS were horrified to see a car crash in which two causalities had to be cut free from the wreckage.

Luckily the casualties were actors performing a demonstration of a road accident for year 12 pupils at Chancellor's School in Brookmans Park.

The display was part of Megadrive - an event to prepare young people for life on the road - held at Hatfield fire station, on Thursday.

It was a joint initiative between Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service and Hertfordshire County Council's road safety unit.

Throughout the day, students learned about what to look for when buying a motor vehicle, road safety, tyre safety and causes of road traffic collisions.

County councillor Richard Smith, executive member for community safety, said: "The Megadrive event is a great example of partnership working to provide youngsters with the best advice and information on everything from learning to drive, to buying their first car and actually getting out on the road.
