RILED residents are set to fight for the life of their threatened village post office.

Following the decision last Tuesday to axe the branch in Little Heath, Potters Bar, a protest meeting has been arranged to voice displeasure over the verdict.

On Monday, July 7 at 11am unhappy customers will rally outside the store in Church Road in an attempt to get post office bosses to reverse their ruling.

Postmaster Hasmukh Patel said he was delighted with the support he had received from his regulars since the announcement.

He said: "The customers are devastated, but everyone has really backed us.

"They have all been emailing and writing to the Post Office.

"Even MP James Clappison is coming down and we are hoping for a really good response and show how much this post office means to people.

"We really hope that we can turn around the decision and remain open to serve our customers.
