The local community is rallying round to raise money for a two-year-old girl who nearly died from meningitis.

Clare James’ daughter Amelia was at “death’s door” according to doctors after suddenly showing symptoms of the life-threatening disease in May.

Although the Welwyn Garden City youngster’s health had since stabalised, Amelia has recently taken a turn for the worse and was readmitted to hospital last week.

A fundraising page has been set up to raise money for a family holiday once she has recovered, and there will be a stall at Creswick Primary and Nursery School’s summer fete on Saturday, June 8.

So far nearly £1,900 has been raised, and several local businesses have also thrown their weight behind the fundraising.

The fete – open to the public – is in the school’s grounds in Sir John Newsom Way between 11am and 2pm.
