Free Comic Book Day is coming back for the second year in a row at Hatfield’s Calamity Comics.
The annual event takes place this year on Saturday, May 5 from 10am, and aims to get new audiences by collaborating with publishers to give away free grab bags of comic books.
Last year it was a hit, with customers old and new joining in - some of them in costume.
“It went down well,” said manager Eric Van Genderen. “It was our first Free Comic Book Day in the Hatfield branch, and we had a great turnout.”
The event has led to new fans of the genre, said Eric. “New people discover us, and fortunately we hang onto them.”
The shop also hold regular drawing workshops, which customers can see in action on the morning of Free Comic Book Day.
Eric added: “If people want to come and have a look round and grab a comic, hopefully we’re going to have something that will please everybody’s different tastes - whether they like superheroes, sci fi, or squishy toys and American sweets!”
