A fraudster has been cold calling businesses across the county claiming to be from ‘Hertfordshire Fire Brigade’.
The fire service has warned that the man, who identifies himself as ‘Peter Griffiths’, is not to be trusted.
Officials say they have been cold a crook is attempting to sell advertising space in a publication.
He follows up with demands for payments.
A statement from the service said: “Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service do not cold call businesses or authorise third party companies to do so on their behalf looking to sell advertising or sponsorship.”
Councillor Richard Thake, who is responsible for community safety at County Hall, said: “We don’t know who this person is, but they certainly aren’t working on our behalf. We’re working hard to identify them and we’ll be taking action once we do. In the meantime I’d encourage anyone who does receive a call from this man to hang up immediately.”
