Police were called to reports of a four-vehicle crash on the A1(M) near Welwyn last night.
A spokeswoman said officers went to Junction 6 on the northbound carriageway at 6.21pm and found that four vehicles had collided.
Among them were a black Audi A3, BMW 3 Series and a white Ford Fiesta, and the spokeswoman said there was debris in the road which caused tailbacks to Hatfield.
It was cleared in just under an hour. No one was injured.
