A four-vehicle crash on the A1(M) caused huge delays near Hatfield last night.

The emergency services were called to the collision on the northbound carriageway between Junction 3 and 4 at 6.16pm, which involved a silver Ford Mondeo, two vans and a black Toyota Prius.

An ambulance service spokesman said: “We dispatched three ambulance crews, two ambulance officers, and a rapid response vehicle to assist.

“At the scene five patients were assessed with one being discharged at the scene.

“The other four were all taken to Lister Hospital for further care, with none believed to be in a life-threatening condition.”

The road was closed for nearly three hours and a diversion put in place via the A1001.
