THIS was the moment that Tyler Rix described as the best of his life.

The 19-year-old stepped onto the stage at the Olympic Torch Relay Finale in front of thousands of screaming fans at Hyde Park, before hoisting the iconic beacon and then lighting the Olympic Cauldron.

The former Dame Alice Owen’s, Potters Bar, pupil was chosen as one of 2012’s final Torchbearers by partners Coca Cola, which had given 1,300 ‘Future Flames’ the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Number one selling jazz album artist, Tyler, certainly had the best leg of the 8,000 person relay.

Coca-Cola told him that he epitomised everything that a ‘Future Flame’ should have – someone who has made a positive contribution to their

community and those around them; a young person who inspires other youngsters to follow their dreams.

The Woodside Park resident certainly does that.

Tyler has performed as a classical soloist for the BBC Concert Orchestra, has played jazz for 10,000 people at the Mayor’s Trafalgar Square celebrations and is currently working on a pop album.

He has also carved a career in football, having been at the West Ham Football Academy and is now at Boreham Wood FC, as well as recently branching out to modelling having been signed by Premier Models.

But Tyler, who visits schools to tell pupils that “anything is possible with determination”, told the Potters Bar Edition being the final Torchbearer on Thursday, at an event featuring rapper Dizzee Rascal, The Wanted and Mark Ronson, topped it all.

“I cried when I came off stage, it was crazy, insane,” said the saxophonist, who is performing at Hyde Park throughout the Olympics.

“As I was talking to the crowd, I stopped and looked up and realised what I was doing.

“I just stood there and took it in, it was incredible.”

Tyler was originally chosen to take part in Haringey’s relay leg, but was later told his story was so inspirational he would be running through the City of Westminster and then into Hyde Park.

“At first I was a bit gutted, as all my friends were going to be at Haringey, but then I found out what I was going to be doing!

“Beforehand it didn’t cross my mind that there would be so many people across the world watching me though. It’s mad – the reaction since it happened, and people in every country now know about me.

“Looking back it was the best moment of my life.”
