Former Marine, 72, robbed outside Asda in Hatfield

Police are appealing for witnesses after a 72-year-old man was had his wallet stolen outside Asda in Hatfield.

Former Marine Anthony Underwood was targeted at the cashpoint outside the town centre supermarket yesterday (Tuesday, May 1) at 10.15am.

He told the WHT: “I wanted to check my balance so I went up to the hole in the wall and someone pushed me right up against the wall.

“I had just got the money and my card out and I felt something and this woman has shouted ‘he’s just stolen your wallet’.”

A police spokeswoman said a witness saw the incident and chased two people, who fled towards the swim centre.

Anthony added: “If they go and do that in the daylight in Asda, when it’s quite busy, you would think they have got some front.

“I don’t think they care about the consequences.”

The suspects are both described as eastern European, in their mid 20s and around 5ft 10in tall.

One was of slim build with short brown hair and wearing a blue gilet, khaki trousers and grey traininers, while the other was in a black Nike jacket, grey tracksuit and black trainers.
