Commonwealth Day was marked with a flag raising in Welwyn Garden City this morning.

Welwyn Hatfield mayor Pat Mabbott today raised the Commonwealth flag at the council’s offices in Welwyn Garden City to mark Commonwealth Day 2017.

She read the Commonwealth Affirmation and delivered a message from The Right Honourable Patricia Scotland QC, Secretary-General of the Commonwealth of Nations.

Pat said: “It is important for us all to remember that, as a member of the Commonwealth, we have friends and allies all over the world.

“Raising the flag here in Welwyn Hatfield will remind everyone of this important fact – some of us may even have family living abroad in fellow Commonwealth nations.

“It was an honour and a pleasure to be part of this globally significant day.”
