A DAYLIGHT bank robbery in Welwyn Garden City is now being linked to similar thefts in the capital, it has emerged.
Officers from the Metropolitan Police’s crack Flying Squad are now probing a robbery at Halifax Bank, in Howardsgate, on January 24.
The lone raider drove through the doors and escaped with a “substantial” amount of cash.
Officers think the smash and grab is linked with raids across London and surrounding counties.
A spokesman for the Met told the WHT: “The MPS Flying Squad are investigating a series of ram-raid attacks on Halifax bank branches across London and in surrounding forces.
“Enquiries are continuing.
“The ram-raid attack on a Halifax branch in WGC is part of this investigation by MPS Flying Squad officers.”
Herts Police recovered the car used in the raid, but there have been no arrests in connection with the WGC raid.
CCTV footage of the robbery and a Youtube clip of the car speeding away on the pavement have been posted on the WHT’s website.
