The former Beehive pub, one of the oldest and most distinctive buildings in Welwyn Garden Gity, is to reopen as a restaurant tomorrow.

The 18th century building, which stopped serving pints last summer to the consternation of several long-standing locals, will be a restaurant trading as Cooper’s.

Jason Tudor, general manager of Cooper’s, said: “We believe our gourmet burgers, aged steaks and seafood dishes bring something unique to Welwyn Garden City; we also offer a wide range of vegetarian options, so are a great option for groups with people of different tastes.

“We are excited to be working with Charles Wells and will be offering a range of their delicious cask ales, craft beers and premium lagers from around the world.”

Cooper’s holds a long term lease for The Beehive from its freehold owner, the brewery group Charles Wells.

Charles Wells retail development manager Kevin Burton said: “Charles Wells are very excited about the reopening of The Beehive on the 24th of January following an extensive investment by Jason Tudor of Cooper’s.

“The new-look Beehive will offer an innovative ‘Surf, Turf and Earth’ menu alongside a range of Charles Wells beers, including our new craft beer Charlie Wells Dry Hopped Lager.

“This is a great opportunity to launch a new style of pub restaurant in Welwyn Garden City and we at Charles Wells wish the management and staff all the very best with the relaunch of The Beehive.”
