Two fire engines from Stevenage were called to deal with the fire.


People were evacuated from buildings at a sports centre in Welwyn Garden City today while the fire service attended the scene.

A Welwyn Garden City fire crew, White Watch, was called to Gosling Sports Park in Stanborough Road.

White Watch WGC tweeted: “Attended a HAZMAT incident today at Gosling Sports Park indoor Acrylic dome due to a faulty diesel generator producing large quantities of fumes.

“Surrounding buildings were temporarily evacuated.

“The faulty generator was isolated and the bubble dome was ventilated.”
