PLANS to transform a fire-ravaged eyesore into a 50 home development have been lodged.

The former Clock Hotel in Church Street, Welwyn, has been derelict since a fire tore through it in 2010, with a new plan for the site floated by owners Lasserton Limited.

If approved, the arson damaged buildings would be pulled down and a walled village style scheme could replace it.

Documents submitted to Welwyn Hatfield Council describe the site as an “eyesore”, and state: “It brings forward a residential scheme which responds to the site’s very particular context and offers a high quality development.”

The blocks will be compromised of a mix of wood and brick, with a communal green space to be included in the plot.

It is not known when Welwyn Hatfield Council will decide whether the scheme will proceed.
