A BLAZE ripped through three sheds destroying bikes and gardening equipment.

Flames leapt from a shed in a garden in Chelwood Avenue, Hatfield to two nearby wooden structures in other gardens in the early hours of today (Friday).

Concerned residents alerted fire crews at 2.30am as flames, partly ignited by flammable liquids in one of the outhouses, threatened to torch a neighbouring garage.

Fire bosses said that the cause of the blaze was accidental.

A fire service spokesman said: "It does not look like anyone started this, it looked like spontaneous combustion.

"We had to traipse through a woman's house to get to the first shed that was on fire.

"It was serious in the fact that three sheds belonging to people went up and items inside were destroyed.

"People were woken by the commotion but no one was hurt.
