Fire crews were called after a fire was “deliberately set by kids”.

The fire was started yesterday (Thursday) off Ridgeway in Welwyn Garden City.

A spokesman for the Fire Service said: “We were called at 5.50pm to Bushey Ley Wood, just opposite the Weltech Centre.

“Some kids set a camp fire before running off.

“No fire fighting as such was needed.”

It is the latest in a number of deliberate fires across the county and prompted the fire service to tweet a warning.

HertsFRSControl said: “We have attended numerous deliberate fires today.

“Arson is against the law and even a small fire could quickly spread to nearby fences, property, cars etc and become out of control.

“Anyone found guilty of setting fires on purpose could face a prison sentence.”
