Firefighters were called to a late-night blaze at a community centre in Hatfield.
Briars Pavilion, adjoining Roe Hill Hall, in Briars Lane, was ablaze last night (Sunday).
Fire crews used jets and an aerial ladder platform to put out the flames.
The fire has caused extensive damage to the reception area and roof of the Hertfordshire County Council day services building.
Hatfield Town Council’s Twitter feed @hatfieldtc tweeted last night: “Briars Pavilion owned by @HertsCounty adjacent to Town Council Roe Hill hall is being attended by fire brigade
“Only smoke damage to Roe Hill Hall, Briars Pavilion hasn’t fared so well”
An investigation is being carried out to determine the cause of the fire.
The entrance to the Roe Hill Hall car park was closed by police this morning.
The Briars Pavilion facility is used during week days by Welwyn & Hatfield Day Service for adults with learning disabilities.
