HATFIELD’S art and culture festival has been hailed as a success by its organisers.

Hatfest, which started on July 6, ended last weekend after hosting a Fun Day on Saturday with dancing and live music.

The Folk by the Oak music festival closed the event on Sunday.

David Grant, festival organiser, said the fun day in White Lion Square proved very popular.

He said: “It was great to see such a variety of things going on in the town centre and I think we must have had close to 1,000 people there, if not more.

“A shop keeper who has worked in the square for 10 years told me it was the busiest he had ever seen the place.

“It was absolutely fantastic to see.”

He added that because this was the first year of the relaunched festival, not everything had run smoothly.

“It has been a fantastic two weeks although not everything was well attended,” he said.

“And it wasn’t just about the events, it has been about the bonds that have formed between people and getting members of the public involved with the festival.”
