THE family of a pilot killed in a plane crash on Good Friday have paid tribute to him.

Dave Boon and his girlfriend Carol Ann Potter, 49, died when their private aircraft crashed into woodland in Steep, near Petersfield, Hampshire, on Good Friday.

The couple had been flying from Panshanger Aerodrome to Jersey when the accident happened.

Mr Boon, 47, grew up in Howlands, WGC, and attended Heronswood School.

A keen musician, he taught himself to play guitar at the age of 15 and went on to play in a number of bands over the years, including local rockers Hardware.

After leaving school, he moved to Stevenage and later married Sharon.

They were together for 24 years and had three children, namely Faye 23, Ross 21 and Craig 17.

On the job front, Mr Boon worked as a mechanic before changing careers and founding a successful plastering company.

Sharon spoke to the WHT about his love of flying.

"In 2005 after a trial flying lesson, Dave was hooked," she said.

"His dedication and hard work paid off when he was rewarded with his private pilot's licence two years later."

"Then it literally was the sky's the limit.

"It became his new passion and sadly cost him his life."

Sharon said Dave was "immensely proud" of his children and added: "Dave will be very deeply missed by his family, friends and all who know him."

Mr Boon is also survived by brothers Ken and Eric, and parents Sid and Betty.

His parents thanked well-wishers for the "lovely" cards and flowers they had received to remember their "darling son".
