The family of the man who died in a garage fire in Hatfield last week have paid tribute to a “caring and loving husband”.

Darren Walker was found dead after the fire in Errington Close last Monday night.

The 48-year-old was a father of three, with two sons, aged eight and 12, and a daughter, who is 17.

A spokesman for the family said: “Darren Walker sadly passed away in a terrible accident.

“You will be sadly missed by your close family and friends but the good times and memories will never be forgotten.

“Sleep well and rest in peace.”

No one else was hurt and no other properties were damaged in the blaze which took hold around 11pm.

Fire crews rushed to the scene but Mr Walker could not be saved.

Scene of crime investigators, from both the police and fire services, were on site the following day conducting an investigation into the cause of the fire.

Police are not currently treating the blaze as suspicious.

A spokesman for the police said: “Whilst at this stage we don’t have any evidence to suggest the fire was deliberately started, if any further evidence came to light we’d investigate this.”
