Ashvin Nayee, 54, of WGC, and his family celebrated the anniversary of Birchwood Post Office (also known as Ashvin’s News and Post) on Friday, July 27.

His parents, Babulal and Favitaben Nayee, opened the store 30 years ago but after his father became ill Ashvin took over with his wife Shashikala and sister-in-law Helen Nayee.

They celebrated by having drinks with customers, cake, giving out goodie bags. They also held a raffle that raised £422. This will be spilt between Isabel Hospice and Friendship House.

Ashvin, who has worked there since it opened, said: “We love working with our community and have seen our customers grow up from children to having children of their own. It was a marvellous day and was nice to be able to give back to the area.”
