A SURREAL internet prankster has incurred the wrath of Hertfordshire County Council - after posing as Hatfield Library on Twitter.
Several bizarre posts from a tweeter calling themselves @LibraryHatfield have been appearing on the microblogging site since July.
But now the county council – which manages Hertfordshire’s libraries – has contacted Twitter to have the hoaxer’s account closed.
Since their first tweet on July 19, the imposter has posted a series of foul-mouthed rants, outrageous claims and bizarre words of advice to their 35 followers.
Among those suitable to print are the suggestions that rapper Ice T, comedian Ricky Gervais and the late Michael Jackson are all members of the library in Queensway and have overdue books.
The imposter also claimed Wikileaks founder Julian Assange – who is facing extradition to Sweden on sexual harassment charges – is seeking asylum at the resource centre, when in fact he is at the Ecuadorian Embassy in London.
Now Hertfordshire County Council has moved to get the fake account closed once and for all.
A council spokesman said: “It’s certainly an unofficial account.
“It has been reported to Twitter and we’re expecting it to be taken down very soon.”
