A MISSING nine-year-old girl was claimed to have been spotted in WGC town centre.
Shannon Matthews, from Dewsbury, in West Yorkshire, was reported to have been seen in McDonald's on Howardsgate at about 12.40pm yesterday (Thursday).
Police were going round the Howard Centre asking workers and townspeople if they had seen the young girl, who went missing after school on Tuesday.
Sam Gaylard, who is 19 and works in JD Sports, said: "We heard on the shop radio that police were looking for the girl and that she had been seen by McDonald's.
"I then heard over the radio that they were checking CCTV."
A Simmons bakery worker confirmed that police had been round asking if they had seen the girl.
"The police come in and showed us a picture of the girl and asked if we had seen her. They said that she was wearing khaki and was with a woman who was wearing black.
"They also said that she had her hair different, it was pulled back in a plait and that the sighting was a 70 per cent match for identification."
A spokesman for McDonald's did not want to comment.
A Hertfordshire Constabulary spokeswoman said: "After a reported sighting, we were checking the CCTV and then sending it to police in West Yorkshire.
"We then went round the Howard Centre to see if anyone had seen anything.
"She was wearing a khaki coloured parker jacket."
