A FORMER Potters Bar Town footballer was killed in a road crash on his way home from a game on Saturday.
Gary Doolan, who was in his late 30s, was driving back to his home in West London when the accident happened on the A40 in Northolt.
His white Citroen Berlingo van collided with the central reservation at around 6.30pm and he was later pronounced dead at Ealing Hospital.
Town chairman Peter Waller paid tribute to the ex-Scholar.
He said: "When we heard a rumour about the accident we hoped it wasn't true.
"It's a tragedy when something happens like that to someone so young especially when he had gone out to play football.
"We were sorry to hear about it and feel for his family.
"He was a nice guy and a good footballer."
Shortly before the accident Gary, known as Dooza, had taken part in a pre-season friendly for London Colney against Cockfosters.
The midfielder turned out for the Parkfield club during their 02-03 season under then boss Steve Smart.
Before and after that period he played for London Colney.
