An “eyesore” site in Essendon could be turned into extended new homes under newly submitted plans.

The bid by Landcom Ltd would see empty buildings in Hitchins Yard extended to form a terrace of six three-bedroom homes.

Buildings have previously been used as homes, workshops and offices.

Under the proposals, the main barn and garages at the back of the West End Lane site will be demolished, with the main house set to be extended.

A letter from the site’s immediate neighbour, signed Mrs E.B. Norris, to Welwyn Hatfield Council planners welcomed the application.

It said; “The yard has been an eyesore for the last 10 years and nothing but trouble for the last 40 years.

“At last it will hopefully be turned into dwellings, tastefully planned, and within keeping of the conservation area in which it is proposed.”
